Preparing Your Business for GDPR10/2017
The General Data Protection Regulation comes into force from May 2018, here’s how it affects you and why you should be preparing now.
The EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the result of over four years of work by the EU to bring data protection legislation into line with new technology and the modern methods with which data is being used and processed.
We are already registered with the Data Protection Act 1998, registration number Z9234135, but the new legislation will supersede it entirely.
The new legislation introduces tougher fines for non-compliance and breaches, and gives people more say over what companies can do with their data and what information is held about them. It also clearly defines the responsibilities for all companies and organisations as to what data can be held, for what purpose and for how long data can be stored for.
As designers of recruitment websites, careers websites and jobs board systems, we have a responsibility to ensure our clients websites are not only secure, but comply with the new legislation.
We are currently updating our systems in time for the new legislation next year and offering guidance as to what our current clients need to do. We are also working with a number of legal and media representatives within the industry to ensure any privacy policies and terms and conditions are compliant.
We have also written a quick guide, which explains the main areas of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation.
