Big Issue Jobs: Working in the Third Sector03/2018
The Big Issue launches jobsboard to recruit the best talent for the not-for-profit sector in England and Scotland
The not-for-profit sector in the UK is big…we’re talking really big. According to the UK Civil Society Almanac last year UK charities had a combined income of somewhere in the region of £45.5bn – that’s with a ‘B’…as in Billion! This huge sector employs around 853,000 staff, which is twice the size of the entire UK Civil Service! Well, we did say it was big.
Following on from the success in Wales of the recruit3 jobsboard site, developed in association with WCVA and The Big Issue Cymru, the same idea is being rolled out for England and Scotland. What is this idea? It is to promote the attraction of working in the Third Sector to the most talented, skilled and experienced professionals out there; to put them in the same room as not-for-profit organisations who can offer them not just competitive salaries, but can also offer them a chance to feel a real sense of accomplishment and job satisfaction knowing that their work has directly benefited so many others.
Working in the third sector is very different to plying your trade in the private sector. It is a very different working environment. Many will have experienced the corporate battleground where your colleagues will smile at you while contemplating stabbing you in the back; where your workmates would not think twice about climbing over you to get to the next rung on the ladder. Working for a charity is different. Wouldn’t you prefer an environment where everyone is working as part of a team with shared ideology, a team all pulling in the same direction?
The not-for-profit sector needs you. It needs someone with fresh ideas and input, with vision and with the energy to fulfil that vision. It needs people who can make a difference to the lives of others. It needs people who would rather see their efforts reward those who need help, rather than rewarding the board members and the shareholders. Big Issue Jobs is the place where you will find the opportunities to change not just your life but the lives of so many others.
Big Issue Jobs has been established to help charities, social enterprises and any other organisation operating in the third sector to advertise vacancies to a large, responsive and relevant audience. As they are a Third Sector organisation themselves, who better to understand the needs of other Third Sector participants?
If you represent a non-profit organisation and you are looking to recruit the best people available to continue to fight the good fight, or you are a professional with the skills and experience to make a real difference to the lives of others, contact Big Issue Jobs today.
